Dictation for people who live in text.
Verbi is a local-first dictation tool for macOS. Speak across every app you use. No cloud. No compromises. Built for the way you actually work.
Free beta · macOS 13+ · Apple Silicon only
Three steps. Zero friction.
Verbi integrates into your existing workflow. No new windows. No new habits. Just speak where you already work.
Trigger Verbi
Press your global shortcut from anywhere on your Mac. Verbi is always ready in the background.
Speak naturally
A floating recording island confirms Verbi is listening. Push-to-talk or toggle — whichever matches your flow.

Text appears where you work
Verbi inserts your transcription directly into any app — email, notes, code editor, Slack. No copy-paste.
Built for real work. Not for demos.
Local-first privacy
All transcription happens on your Mac. Your voice and transcript content are never sent to the cloud. Built for private notes, documentation, and professional writing.
Works across your Mac
Insert text into any app — email, notes, code editors, Slack, Notion.
Keyboard-native control
Global shortcuts you configure. Your muscle memory, your shortcuts.
Adjustable models
Choose your transcription model. Trade off speed and accuracy for your use case.
Live recording feedback
A floating island confirms what state Verbi is in — recording, processing, done.
Built for text-heavy work
Designed for developers, founders, writers, and anyone who lives in documents.
Your words should stay yours.
Voice and transcript content are not sent to the cloud. Verbi is designed so your dictation does not become cloud training data.
Built for private notes, drafts, documentation, and professional writing — where what you say is no one else's business.
A real Mac utility.
Not a browser trick.
Verbi integrates at the system level. It reads your global shortcuts, runs in the background, and places text exactly where your cursor is.
Trigger Verbi from any app without switching focus.
Hold to speak, or toggle recording on and off — whatever suits your rhythm.
Verbi runs in the background. Use it in Xcode, Mail, Notion, Terminal — anywhere.
A small overlay confirms you're being heard, then disappears. No clutter.
Switch languages without leaving your workflow.
Balance speed and accuracy. Select the model that matches your machine.
Why Verbi needs access — and why it's fine.
Verbi asks for three permissions. Here's what each one does and why it's needed for the product to work correctly.
Required to capture audio when you activate Verbi.
Nothing is recorded until you trigger the shortcut. Verbi only listens when you ask it to.
Required to insert text into other apps at cursor position.
This is how Verbi places transcribed text directly where you're typing — like any keyboard input would.
Required to detect your global shortcut while other apps are in focus.
Without this, the hotkey only works inside Verbi. With it, you can trigger from anywhere.
Setup takes about 60 seconds. macOS will walk you through each permission request with a standard system prompt. You stay in control.
If you live in text, Verbi is for you.
Dictate PR comments, documentation, commit messages, and Slack replies without leaving your editor.
“// TODO: refactor this auth flow — the token refresh logic needs a cleaner abstraction”
Draft investor updates, planning notes, product ideas, and replies to your inbox — spoken, not typed.
“Following up on our Q3 metrics — CAC came in at $42, which puts us well ahead of the model...”
Answer tickets and CRM notes faster. High-volume text output without the RSI risk.
“Hi Sarah, thanks for reaching out. I've checked your account and can see the issue — here's how to fix it...”
Capture ideas, dictate outlines, record thoughts while they're still warm. Never lose a sentence again.
“The argument breaks down into three parts: premise one assumes frictionless transfer, but the evidence suggests otherwise...”
